Mentor
Huang Chiao (Joe) Huang
Dr. Huang Chiao Huang is an Assistant Professor in the Fischell Department of Bioengineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. Huang Chiao earned a doctorate in Chemical Engineering from Arizona State University in 2012 under the guidance of Dr. Kaushal Rege. He then conducted his postdoctoral research with Dr. Tayyaba Hasan at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. In 2018, Dr. Huang established his lab at the University of Maryland, College Park.
Financial Liaison
Louise Mitchelmore
Louise is a Junior at the University of Maryland majoring in Physiology and Neurobiology with a dual degree in Psychology. Louise is in the Gemstone Honors Program where she serves as the Financial Liaison for Team Metabio. Formerly, Louise has been involved in research at the Chesapeake Biological Laboratory. In the future, Louise would like to go into the medical field. Currently, she would like to achieve a PhD or MD specializing in neuroscience. Louise loves to travel and attended the University of Edinburgh during the Spring 2023 semester. In her free time, Louise loves to scuba dive, listen to music, play the saxophone, and go on walks with her dog and cats.
Team Liaison
Nada Fadul
A Banneker/Key Scholar, Nada is a junior at the University of Maryland who is concentrating in Physiology and Neurobiology and minoring in Science, Technology, Ethics and Policy (STEP). Within the Gemstone Honors Program, Nada is the team liaison of MetaBio. She is also an undergraduate research assistant in an Optical Therapeutics and Nanotechnology Laboratory. In the future, Nada aspires to pursue an MD-PhD.
Financial Liaison
Farah Farrag
Farah is a junior majoring in Cell Biology and Genetics at the University of Maryland. After completing her undergraduate studies, Farah hopes to attend veterinary school to obtain her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree, and would like to specialize in small animal oncology. A member of the Gemstone Honors College, Farah serves as the financial liaison for Team MetaBio. In her free time, Farah enjoys swimming, surfing, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
Mentor Liaison
Dilan Gangar
Dilan Gangar is a sophomore Bioengineering major at the University of Maryland College Park with a focus in pre medical career pathway. He serves as the mentor liaison on Team Metabio. After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Dilan hopes to pursue his aspirations of becoming a physician scientist through attending medical school. Some of his hobbies include watching and playing all sports, watching movies, and spending time with friends and family.
Website Liaison
Anna Shaw
Anna is a junior at the University of Maryland majoring in Cell Biology and Genetics. She is in the Gemstone Honors Program, where she is the Website Liason for Team MetaBio. In the future, she intends to go to medical school to get her MD. Outside of MetaBio, she is training to become an EMT, volunteering with the University of Maryland Medical Center, and conducting additional research. She also enjoys listening to music, playing electric bass, and working out.
Social Media Liaison
Jenn Yeon
Jennifer Yeon is a sophomore majoring in physiology and neurobiology and is a recipient of the President’s Scholarship at the University of Maryland. Jenn serves as the Social Media Liaison in Team MetaBio in the Gemstone Honors Program. In the future, Jenn would like to pursue a Ph.D degree and to work in forensic science. Jenn likes to listen to podcasts, go to museums, play the cello and piano, lift weights at the gym, and watch old rom coms in her free time.
